Stephen Webster with American Renaissance magazine said Wednesday that those registered for the meeting have been told it has been canceled. The magazine is known for white supremacist and anti-immigrant views.

American Renaissance had planned its conference Friday through Sunday at the Sheraton Charlotte Airport hotel. The hotel canceled the reservation after officials said they learned of the group's "extremely controversial views."

Magazine editor Jared Taylor on Monday criticized the hotel and two Charlotte city councilman who Taylor said helped persuade the hotel to cancel the reservations.

Both councilmen denied contacting hotels.
