alvin truth3time1 - Secret Religious Right Group Plots Online Attacks Against LGBT Community

Alvin McEwen of Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters dropped a bombshell this morning: an anonymous source tipped him off to a secret Facebook group called “Truth3Time,” which serves as a central gathering point for anti-LGBT religious right activists plotting online attacks against the LGBT community on sites like YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook:

Truth3Time is supposed to be a library of anti-gay articles, blogs, and other materials for its members to use in their fight against the supposed “gay agenda.” Apparently the group has a large lists of documents which contains anti-gay information (i.e. propaganda) that members are invited to use. . .

[The group contains] public figures and prominent members of the anti-gay industry, including:

• a Fox News pundit,
• former employees of Concerned Women for America and The Family Research Council,
• a prominent member of the American Family Association,
• long term anti-gay activists, including those who testified in front of Congress,
• prominent members of the so-called “ex-gay” movement,
• a member of a state legislature,
• college professors from right-wing universities,
• activists who have called for laws declaring homosexuality illegal,
• members of a prominent anti-gay marriage equality group, and
• various religious right talking heads who us bloggers have had to refute many times in the past.

Members of the group seem to be paralyzed by fear and consumed with anger about the fact that the rabid homophobia they proudly propagate is being increasingly pushed to the extreme fringe where it belongs. They’re convinced that the “homosexualists” are waging an online “disinformation/propaganda campaign” intent on flooding websites with pro-LGBT messages; the group’s mission statement shows how it intends to counteract this trumped-up threat:

It’s pretty well know [sic] that if and when you attend a homosexual activist conference (like HRC and others), they give them a handful of goals to accomplish. One of the goals is to take the time to go online and post “jamming” messages on as many sites as possible. This is definitely happening, and happening more and more.

We need extremely trustworthy people who want to engage with and debate the homosexualists online to counter their disinformation/propaganda campaign. Once we assemble enough people, we will “jam-back” on other sites too, such as Youtube [sic], Myspace, Tumblr, Twitter, Google Plus, etc, and any chat forum, blog, or pro-homo articles that have a comment section. We’ll start with facebook [sic] pages first though.

Along with countering their messages with facts, we will also use their tactic of “gaining up” [sic] on their comments and pages, and report/flag it multiple times to get them removed. The goal is to assemble at least 50-100 people and exponentially keep adding more warriors, so it can be a non-stop thing. When people are busy working, there will hopefully be others who are free during those times. And some days and nights, by chance, we’ll all be online full force. Thank for you [sic] help!

Group members post links to articles that they wish to flood with anti-gay comments, crackpot “statistics,” and junk science. (Incidentally, they seem to have a particular hatred for Joe Jervis over at Joe.My.God, even speculating about the possibility that Satan whispers in Joe’s ear.) According to McEwen, his source — also a member of the group — revealed its existence after becoming disturbed by a member’s plan to inundate physicians and school boards with anti-LGBT propaganda.

Alvin’s post is worth reading in its entirety. With all the progress we’re making towards LGBT equality, it’s easy to forget the depths to which our opponents will stoop in their hate-fueled, lie-filled, unholy crusade against our community, our rights, our lives, and our love. But if we forget, we do so at our peril.
