GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) — A trial date has been set for an Alabama man accused of killing his toddler with a sword or knife in what relatives called a ritual slaying.
Stephon Lindsay is charged with capital murder in the death of his 1-year-old daughter, Maliyah Lindsay. Al.comreports (http://bit.ly/1NRCdx3 ) that Etowah County Judge Billy Ogletree has set a Feb. 22 trial date.
Gadsden police found the child's body in a wooded area on March 12, 2013.
An autopsy found the child died of blunt force trauma, and that a knife or sword was used in her death.
Family members said the girl was killed as part of a ritual. A judge has imposed a gag order in the case.
