Employees at a coffee roasting company discover sports bag packed with cocaine
If the scent of coffee roasting wasn’t enough to wake workers up at a Berlin business this week, a surprise in their latest shipment from Brazil certainly was.
Employees at the coffee roasting company found a sports bag hidden inside their delivery of unroasted green coffee beans filled with cocaine.
“This was no coffee whitener,” a spokesman for the Berlin police told BZ, a local newspaper. The shipment turned out to contain almost 73lbs of cocaine, with a street value of Eu1.5m (£1.2m), wrapped in thick black carbon foil.
Police seized the drug after they were called by staff at the coffee company. But who the delivery was intended for, and why it was hidden in the coffee, remains a mystery. ...
