I am a lot different than a lot of farmers but I do know that the science of integrated pest management is real and useful. However when an agriculture and a related econsystem are heavily compromised, pesticde use is believed to become necessary. However, if agriculture is actually diversified and the true stewards of the land are affirmed, the 189 acre farmer are adequately supported, the lands ar rejuvenated and are more sound. The lands must rest and rejuvenate onve in awhile for such programs as the above to actually work and for lands to come back. This is one of the reasons for ths 30's ear dust bowl. God, the book The Worst Hard Time is just heartbreaking because they would try and it would fail again and again and again. The land was not respected and as a oonsequence it wsa just whipped, lost it's substance, and blew away because markets got predatory, people got greedy, and the whole kaboodle went to crap. No windbreaks, no rain (long cycle drought), and local conditions combined with a lack of respect to end up with a huge area of land just lost to any use for years; mostly related to human activity, arrogance, incompetence, and negligence; Hoover and Coolidge.
